Motorists across the UK have been urged to take advantage of the end of winter to give their car a spring clean, making it a welcoming and relaxing environment for the year ahead.

GEM Motoring Assist advises giving the car a thorough once over in order to tackle any built up grime that could cause damage to bodywork if left.

Furthermore, motorists should remember to keep their wash bottles topped up, while they should also check under the bonnet to ensure all electricals and interior vents are free from debris and dirt, something which can have a serious impact on the longevity of the engine if left unaddressed.

David Williams, chief executive officer of GEM, commented: "With spring, we should see lighter and brighter weather, so it is a good time to run some simple maintenance checks on your car to make sure it's ready to roll, as summer itself edges nearer."

Earlier this month, GEM also highlighted the importance of carrying out regular eye checks, as having clear vision is one of the most important elements of being able to drive safely.
