Suzuki has announced an extremely positive start to 2013, with the vehicle manufacturer reporting a considerable upturn in sales to the end of May.

The company sold a total of 14,081 models in the first five months of the year – up by more than 3,000 units on the same period of 2012.

Furthermore, May registrations on their own were 33 per cent above average at 2,444 cars sold.

Suzuki placed some of the positive data down to its ongoing VAT-free period for buyers, which runs until the end of June.

The news follows the publication of positive research from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) for the firm, with the Suzuki Splash mini-MPV achieving the least MOT failures of any model in the UK last year.

"By helping our customers … we can push even closer to a 100 per cent pass rate. That's great for customers' peace of mind," commented Denis Houston, aftersales director at the vehicle manufacturer.
