England's A roads and motorways appeared to run a little more smoothly in April 2013, if new figures released by the Department for Transport (DfT) are to be believed.
The report showed that 81.7 per cent of journeys completed on a main road managed by the Highways Agency were on time during the month – a 1.6 per cent upturn on April 2012.
This means drivers were able to reach their destination within an acceptable timeframe based on a number of factors, including the average speed on a particular road and historic data relating to a motorway.
According to the DfT's statistics, 77.2 per cent of journeys ran efficiently in the 12 months to the end of April 2013, which was a 0.1 per cent improvement on the year ending March 2013.
The government body suggested that A roads and motorways account for just two per cent of England's overall road network, yet they attract one-third of the nation's total traffic.
There are few things more frustrating for drivers than being stuck in a lengthy queue, as this not only makes people late, but also wastes unnecessary amounts of fuel.
