Vehicle manufacturer Ford has seen its sales for the year so far outpace the UK market average, data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has shown.

Sales of the brand's models totalled 103,132 units for the year so far – an increase of 4.8 per cent from the same time in 2011 – while the Ford Fiesta continues to be the UK's most popular choice for car buyers, with 42,170 units sold so far this year.

Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "We are looking forward to launching more exciting new products this year, including the Focus ST, the new Ford B-MAX and the new Ford Transit."

Earlier this year, Ford's Focus model was named the best company car of 2012 by online publication Business Car Manager.

It was described as the "perfect all rounder" due to the vehicle's low emissions of just 109 g/km of CO2, coupled with superb driveability and comfort for motorists.
