Vehicle manufacturer Vauxhall has announced the company has signed a new agreement with Autogreen that will see the business increase its green credentials in the years ahead.

The firm is set to work more closely with the vehicle recycling business, with the car company ensuring it is now in a positive position to meet its ongoing legislatory obligations under the European End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive.

Vauxhall has been including recycled parts – known as recyclates – within in its car construction process since 1990, so the firm is no stranger to the benefits of recycling both in terms of material reuse, environmental impact and cost savings.

However, the firm's new Design for Recycling strategy aims to boost the company's green credentials even further and this is where the new partnership with Autogreen can play a big part in helping to make Vauxhall's vehicles as sustainable as possible in the years to come.

Ian Allen, the manufacturer's regulatory affairs manager, commented: "Vauxhall is delighted to continue the successful partnership with Autogreen.

"Not only does it ensure we are well placed to meet the new End-of-Life Vehicle regulations that come into force in 2015, but it also shows our commitment to reducing waste and pollutants, conserving resources and recycling materials at every stage of the product lifecycle."

Having worked alongside Vauxhall since 2005, Autogreen is no stranger to the company's requirements when it comes to vehicle parts re-use.

However, in light of the new requirement to achieve a 95 per cent recycling rate for all vehicles that will come into effect from January next year, both Vauxhall and Autogreen are now working in partnership to ensure this ambitious level of recycling is achieved.

At present, vehicle builders are required to re-use at least 85 per cent of all parts from vehicles when they reach the end of their working life.
