Volkswagen (VW) has unveiled its new CrossBlue SUV concept at the ongoing North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Featuring a unique dual powertrain, the model couples an electric all-wheel drive system with a turbocharged direct injection engine to deliver maximum performance and fuel efficiency.
The model also has a number of innovative design features, including twin fuel ports for both the diesel tank and electrical sockets, as well as a six-seat option, with three in the front and three in the rear.
Jonathan Browning, president and chief executive officer for VW Group of America, commented: "It combines a truly versatile interior layout with sophisticated Volkswagen design, to give a unique and supremely stylish offering in this segment."
The news follows a positive 2012 for VW, with the company reporting a record year for deliveries. In total, the vehicle manufacturer witnessed an 11.2 per cent increase in annual activity to 9.07 million vehicles.
