Vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) has revealed its sales to the end of August have topped the six million mark for the first time.
In total, August saw 720,400 vehicle sales for the firm, bringing the total for the first eight months of the year to an impressive 6.17 million.
This figure is 4.5 per cent higher than that recorded during the corresponding period last year, with sales registered in both North and South America bolstering the manufacturer's results considerably – up 10.9 per cent annually.
Asia-Pacific performance also improved by 16.2 per cent.
Group board member for sales Christian Klingler commented: "The VW Group is in robust shape despite the economic uncertainty and our development in the period to August remained satisfactory."
He added despite difficult trading conditions for the year so far, the company remains optimistic its deliveries for the whole of 2013 will exceed those seen in 2012.
