Vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen has reported a 0.1 per cent annual increase in its fleet operations, maintaining its position as the number one fleet provider in Europe.

The company revealed its brands Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda delivered a total of 155,443 cars to fleet buyers during the first three months of 2012, with the company holding on to top spot in five of Europe's biggest markets – the UK, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.

"With our global structure as well as a balanced and economical portfolio of models, we can offer our customers reliable consistency in these demanding times," said Martin Jahn, head of Volkswagen Group Fleet International.

Last month, Volkswagen revealed its first quarter company results, showing total sales for the first three months of 2012 stood at €47.3 billion (£37.5 billion).

The firm's operating profits were up by 10.2 per cent at €3.2 billion and its overall market share increased from 11.9 to 12.2 per cent in the passenger car sector.
