The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has called on the government to speed up the delivery of a report on improving safety for new drivers.

A green paper on recommendations to reduce the risk of this group becoming involved in serious accidents is to be delivered by the Department for Transport in the coming months, but the IAM wishes to see this publication date brought forward.

Measures including a ban on night driving for individuals of a certain age range and a limit on the number of passengers for newly-qualified motorists are just some of the proposals that have been put forward to boost road safety in this area in the past.

IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "The UK has the safest roads in the world but with so many crashes involving new drivers, there is a clear urgency for the government to address the issues young people face on the roads."
