More than 7,000 motorists travelling on the M6 in Cheshire have received helpful advice on road safety and the importance of proper vehicle maintenance as part of efforts by local authorities to make the county's roads safer.

Held on August 11th, the event encouraged passing drivers to Stop 4 T and offered motorists the chance to take a break from travelling to pull over and enjoy some light refreshment while learning more about safety on the UK's motorways.

Drivers were educated on the six Ts that made up the theme of the event, they were: T is for tyres, tiredness, towing, two second rule, top up your tank and take care around roadworks.

An array of organisations were involved in the one-day campaign, including local fire services, police forces, councils and vehicle safety specialist TyreSafe.

It saw Cheshire Police's Think! crashed car exhibited as a reminder of the dangers people face when travelling at high speed, as well as a driver simulator and a range of features to highlight the importance of remembering safe practices everytime individuals get behind the wheel.

Highways England road safety co-ordinator Lisa Scott said: "The aim of the safety day was to get drivers to think carefully about driving safely and maintaining their vehicles.

"Motorway driving is such an everyday experience for most people, it's easy to forget how one wrong move can have terrible consequences."

By focusing on the event's six simple reminders, it is hoped motorists can ensure they have safer and more reliable journeys in the future.
