MP for Leeds North West Greg Mulholland has been honoured by road safety charity Brake for his efforts to bolster the safety of all road users within his constituency.
The inaugural winner of the Parliamentarian of the Month Award from Brake and insurer Direct Line Group for 2016, Mr Mulholland has led tireless work to bring the new Criminal Driving (Justice for Victims) Private Members' Bill to fruition over recent months and read the bill for the first time in the House of Commons on January 12th.
Further progress is now expected in the months ahead and the award of this accolade reflects his efforts to secure wide-ranging and cross-party support for tougher sentences for those that kill while driving.
Accepting his award, Mr Mulholland stated: "I'm very pleased to have been awarded Brake's Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month.
"I want to pay tribute to the campaigning of families who have lost loved ones due to criminal driving; I want to keep campaigning for better justice for victims of criminal drivers and do all I can to ensure government takes up the measures in my Criminal Driving Bill."
Improved justice for all in the event that people are killed on the roads through no fault of their own lies at the heart of the new legislation and it is an issue that both Brake and Direct Line have themselves campaigned to support in recent years.
