New data published by the Department for Transport (DfT) has highlighted a slight upturn in reliable journey times on the nation's transport network for the public in the 12 months to the end of June 2013.
According to the government's findings, 77.2 percent of journeys made on the nation's major routes – A roads and motorways – were completed without delays for drivers. This represents an increase of 0.1 per cent on the previous 12-month period.
Furthermore, the DfT has also published figures revealing the level of traffic witnessed across major roads in the UK grew by 2.9 per cent in the second quarter – April to June – to 76.8 billion miles travelled.
Car traffic made up the lion's share of this figure at 60.8 billion miles, while heavy goods vehicles accounted for a further 3.9 billion.
It therefore appears improvements in the roads network are offsetting this rise in travel, as drivers continue to reach their destinations in a timely manner in the majority of cases.
