Ford's EcoBoost engine technology has been praised for its impressive fuel economy credentials.
The company landed the Manufacturer Initiative of the Year accolade at the Car Dealer Power awards, much to the delight of Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director.
Car makers are under increasing pressure to produce engines that are kinder on the environment and the demand for cleaner, more economical models has risen sharply in recent years.
Ford is certainly leading the way, having created a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit, as well as 1.6 and 2.0-litre four-cylinder versions of the engine.
James Batchelor, editor of Car Dealer, said salespeople have confirmed vehicles that come with this type of engine are flying out of their showrooms.
"Ford has produced an engine range that has found universal praise for its fuel-sipping habits and low CO2 emissions, yet delivers the power and refinement of much larger petrol engines," he remarked.
