Fife Council has announced it has invested in a new 30-strong fleet of Volkswagen Crafter vans as part of its ongoing vehicle replacement programme.

Andrew Salmond, fleet officer at Fife Council, said: "The capacity and reliability of the vehicles was instrumental in the procurement process. We have a number of vehicles in use across the region and have always been pleased with the performance of the Crafter."

Set to be used by the council's Parks and Countryside department, the Crafter has been described as ideally suited to meeting the council's needs, as it offers considerable flexibility in terms of specification, as well as providing excellent green credentials, including combined fuel consumption of up to 39.8 mpg.

Elsewhere, north-east housing group Vela recently announced the purchase of 200 new Citroen vehicles, as it too looks to update its fleet offering. Its purchase included 120 Citroen Dispatch L2 1200 vans and eight Citroen Relay 35 L3 H2 HDi 130 vans.
