Vehicle manufacturer Toyota has announced it is to produce its new Auris model at its Burnaston plant in the UK.

Tony Walker, Toyota Motor UK deputy managing director, commented: "The start of new Auris production at Burnaston is a testament to the ongoing achievements of our members in helping create one of the finest vehicle manufacturing centres in the world."

He added that Burnaston was Toyota's first European manufacturing centre, opened 20 years ago, and continues to play an important part in the company's plans for growth in the eurozone.

To date, Toyota has invested £185 million in its UK supply chain and manufacturing facilities for the new Auris.

Available on the road from £12,145, the vehicle delivers fuel efficiency of 48.7 mpg combined and emissions of just 135 g/km of CO2. It is registered in tax band E for motorists and achieves acceleration of zero to 62 mph in ten seconds.

The model also benefits from a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
