Motorists across the UK have been warned of the increased risk of traffic accidents which tends to follow the changing of the clocks in the UK from GMT to daylight savings time each year.

According to road charity RSA, as drivers' eyes have to adjust to the growing darkness during the twilight hours, this can lead to people failing to spot hazards that would be more obvious at other times of the day.

RSA UK & western Europe chief executive Adrian Brown said: "It's often when driving during twilight hours that people first notice problems with their vision."

He added that just as an MOT and service is important for keeping a car safe, regular eye tests are vital to ensure drivers' eyes are also roadworthy.

Meanwhile, Institute for Advanced Motorists head of training Simon Elstow recently advised motorists planning to use motorways that it is important they keep their wits about them when changing lanes at high speeds.
