Volkswagen Group (VW) has reported annual deliveries of 9.7 million vehicles for 2013 – 9.5 million excluding the heavy truck brands of MAN and Scania.

This represents an annual 4.8 per cent increase in deliveries for the firm, with December proving a particularly popular month for the company's models, delivering more than 883,000 units to buyers across the globe (6.3 per cent up on the same month in 2012).

Deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region were shown to be extremely popular in December – rising 14.7 per cent year-on-year – with Chinese buyers in particular embracing the brand.

Group board member for sales Christian Klingler commented: "Across the board, all brands contributed to these very positive results, which are a very good achievement in light of the difficult conditions on markets all over the world."

He added the VW brand expects to see a similar level of deliveries this year, despite ongoing economic uncertainty in Europe.
