GEM Motoring Assist has published a breakdown of the top pet hates for UK motorists.

Drivers across the UK gave their responses to the company on what behaviours really get their goat when behind the wheel, with the issue of tailgating coming out on top.

Individuals not indicating before a turn, improper motorway lane use – centre lane hogging – other road users cutting them up, driving well below the speed limit and lorries taking an age to overtake are just some of the other issues highlighted by the research.

GEM chief executive officer David Williams commented: "Even though minor motoring misbehaviour seems less serious than certain other driving offences, it can be as equally dangerous."

He added the fact serious cutbacks are being made to many police force budgets across the UK at present means there are fewer officers on the roads to enforce proper and safe driving etiquette – something GEM wishes to see addressed sooner rather than later.
