New research has highlighted drivers in the capital as suffering the most "avoidable" MOT failures.
According to data compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a total of 35 per cent of MOT failures are classed as avoidable for motorists in London, compared to a national average of just 22 per cent.
"The data shows that, more than anywhere else in the UK, motorists in London would be able to avoid needless MOT failures by spending just a few minutes carrying out a series of simple pre-MOT checks," commented SMMT interim chief executive Mike Baunton.
Figures from the SMMT showed central London (46.4 per cent) had the highest level of avoidable failures, followed by south-west London (35.4 per cent), Bromley (34.3 per cent) and Ilford (33.9 per cent).
The news follows recent advice from GEM Motoring Assist, stating that vehicle owners across the UK should take the opportunity of the improving weather to carry out a number of spring checks on their car, including clearing away grime and debris that may have built up over the winter months.
