Data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has highlighted a significant increase in automotive sector output in the year to date.
Car production rose by 4.5 per cent over the first 11 months of 2013 in comparison to the same period last year, with the industry now on track to break the 1.5 million annual vehicles produced mark in the UK for the first time in six years.
This comes despite a 3.6 per cent annual dip in production for November, although the SMMT argued this downturn is nothing to worry about, as many manufacturers have now reined in production on older models as a result of a range of launches scheduled for the new year.
Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, commented: "The forthcoming new models will play an integral part in what is predicted to be an even stronger 2014 for UK car manufacturing."
He added the data represents the best annual performance for the industry since 2007.
