The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered advice to families planning an Easter getaway this year.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger states: "Taking some steps to prepare yourself and your vehicle before setting off on your much-deserved Easter break will mean you'll have a far more enjoyable time getting there."
With this in mind, the organisation advises drivers to carry out simple vehicle checks before heading off, including ensuring all lights and signals are working correctly, as well as checking tyre pressures.
Moreover, motorists should pack enough items to keep the family entertained on their journey, as restless children can be a real distraction for mums and dads. Consoles or portable DVD players are good choices, as they can keep children busy for hours.
Meanwhile, planning routes in advance to avoid heavy traffic or delays can be another good measure for making journeys go as smoothly as possible, the IAM advises.
