Publication of the latest Streetwatch Survey from the AA has revealed an improvement in the number of potholes that are being reported across the country this winter.

However, the data showed there is still an average of 6.25 potholes for every mile of road across the country, meaning drivers will need to remain vigilant to avoid damage to their vehicle from these hazards.

This is an improvement from this time last year though, when the report showed there were 14.9 potholes for every mile.

"Although patching up the roads after last winter's ravages has brought some improvement, their condition is on a knife-edge and drivers are still likely to have to dodge potholes," commented AA president Edmund King.

Meanwhile, Warranty Direct's Duncan McClure Fisher warned motorists earlier this month that the upcoming freezing weather that is forecast for the UK could have a significant impact on the number of potholes that are being seen on the country's roads in the coming weeks.
