The ongoing high cost of petrol and diesel remains a top concern for motorists across the UK, new research from British Car Auctions (BCA) has revealed.
A poll of 400 UK drivers was carried out by the organisation and from this group, 70 per cent stated that fuel costs remain their biggest concern when it comes to motoring.
More than half of those surveyed said they would consider using their car less in the future if the issue of high fuel costs is not addressed, while the other main concerns of drivers right now include the cost of road tax, insurance prices, vehicle maintenance and parking.
Editor of the BCA Used Car Market Report Tim Naylor commented: "The reality is that fuel prices today are still much higher than they were just a few years ago – and for many motorists it's hard to forget when unleaded was under £1 a litre.
"According to our research, over one in five are convinced the fuel retailers are failing to pass on potential savings and a quarter of drivers are frustrated by the lack of action by the government to tackle the cost of motoring."
Indeed, figures published by the AA also recently showed how supermarkets have been among the hardest hit in terms of motorists cutting down on fuel consumption as a result of excessive costs.
The organisation showed that from October to the end of December last year, the UK's big four supermarkets witnessed a 4.9 per cent reduction in fuel sales, as drivers chose to go elsewhere for petrol and diesel.
Meanwhile, Mr Naylor concluded: "More than half of our survey said they have considered changing their current car for a more fuel efficient model in the last 12 months."
Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed a 17.7 per cent rise in the number of new car registrations across the UK in March, coinciding with the launch of the new '14 number plate.
Furthermore, year-to-date vehicle registrations have risen by 13.7 per cent in comparison to the same period of 2013, with more than 680,000 new cars purchased by buyers up and down the country.
