The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued a number of tips to drivers planning to take their vehicles to France from the UK this summer.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: "The school holidays are fast approaching and many people will be driving on the continent this summer. Driving abroad can be very different to driving at home, but preparation as always is the key."
According to the organisation, motorists should remember that it is against the law to travel without a breathalyser kit in the car, while anyone fancying a tipple should be aware the legal limit for alcohol consumption is lower in France – 50 mg per 100ml of blood compared to 80 mg in the UK.
Children sitting in the front seat of a vehicle should also be ten years or older and drivers must be aware that devices featuring radar speed camera detection are illegal, whether they are in use or not – and this also applies to satnavs.
Last month, the IAM also offered more general advice for anyone planning to drive abroad this year, including researching the laws of all countries they will be passing through on their travels.
