With the new school year fast approaching, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered a range of advice to mums and dads keen to make the school run as stress-free as possible.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: "A little preparation can go a long way to making the school run easier, safer and less stressful, so take the extra time and plan ahead."
As such, the organisation recommended leaving the house as early as possible to give oneself that bit of extra time. Planning to avoid the often busy traffic first thing in the morning is a helpful approach too and this can be achieved by taking a less well-travelled route.
Furthermore, car pooling was suggested as a good way for parents to avoid the daily run altogether. Instead, they can take it in turns with other parents to ferry kids to and from school, cutting their fuel costs and reducing the number of cars hanging around the busy school gates.
