Volkswagen (VW) Group has published its sales figures for July, with the company reporting its positive start to 2013 continued last month.

VW sold 757,000 vehicles in July – 3.2 per cent up on the same period last year – and continued its excellent start to 2013, with the figures for the first seven months of the year 5.1 per cent higher than in the same period of 2012 at 5.45 million vehicles.

Deliveries in July were 11.9 per cent higher in North America. However, this upward trend was somewhat countered by a 7.6 per cent decline in South America.

Group board member for sales Christian Klingler said: "The positive trend in VW Group deliveries continued at the start of the second half-year – even though conditions on some markets were at times extremely challenging."

He added the economic climate remains "difficult", but this is not dissuading the firm from pushing to make 2013 as good a year as possible.
