A large hole that formed in the central reservation of the M2 carriageway near Faversham in Kent is causing major headaches for motorists in the area.
Measuring more than 15 ft in depth and several feet in diameter, the hazard was first reported last Wednesday (February 12th) and has since seen a visit from roads minister Robert Goodwill.
"Motorists are understandably frustrated at the time it has taken to sort out this problem. However, it is important that the Highways Agency understands the cause of the problem before carrying out remedial action," the minister commented.
He added the priority is to ensure the long-term safety of drivers in the area and therefore Highways Agency engineers have been working around the clock to fix this issue.
Situated between junctions 5 and 6 of the motorway, the route remains closed to traffic in both directions as agency staff assess how best to deliver a lasting solution to the problem.
