Volvo Trucks has reported a monthly reduction in its vehicle deliveries of four per cent in March.

The company announced European deliveries of 3,952 units last month – an annual decline of 12 per cent.

However, the organisation noted its UK deliveries were up both annually and from February 2012 last month.

Delivery figures for the year to date were down by one per cent overall annually at 25,014 vehicles. The numbers were bolstered by a six per cent rise in eastern Europe and a 59 per cent increase in sales in areas described as 'other markets'.

Earlier this month, the company unveiled its new XE-16 fuel efficiency package, which it claims provides improved cost performance for haulage companies.

Ed Saxman, Volvo Trucks drivetrain product manager, commented: "The beauty of Volvo's XE powertrain is that it delivers the full power and low-end torque needed for higher weight applications, while saving fuel."
