GEM Motor Assist has launched a new series of road safety videos aimed at older motorists, highlighting the importance of being aware of one's own limitations as people get older.

Presented by Valerie Singleton, the series of three videos examine the major areas drivers of advancing years need to address, such as the legal obligations they face when they reach the age of 70, as well as the need for regular health exams and checks on eyesight.

In addition, the videos feature testimony from a number of older car owners and their families, revealing insights into the attitudes of older motorists themselves and those of their loved ones to their continuing driving during their golden years.

David Williams, chief executive of GEM, commented: "Getting old does not automatically equate to a total loss of driving skill and ability. But it's important that we pay attention to any warning signs suggesting that age may be compromising our driving safety."

He added a car will receive an annual MOT, so it is therefore sensible that motorists are also subject to regular checks to ensure they stay safe when taking to the roads.
