Renault has become Europe's leading low-carbon vehicle manufacturer, according to data compiled by the Association Auxiliaire de l'Automobile.
The company has become the first marque to achieve an average carbon emissions total for its vehicle sales of under 115g/km of CO2 and saw five vehicles achieve carbon outputs of less than 110g/km – the Twingo, New Clio, Captur, Megane and Dacia Sandero.
During the course of the year, the firm saw a reduction of more than 10g/km in emissions across its entire range from 125.5g/km on average to just 114.7g/km.
Jean-Philippe Herminne, director for environmental planning at Renault Group, commented: "This position of market leader is proof that the combination of our powertrain strategy – with our range of Energy engines – and our electric vehicle strategy is bearing fruit."
He added the firm has achieved significant tangible results in its drive to deliver a long-term reduction in its environmental activities.
