Used car values in the UK have "softened" post Easter, BCA Commercial has revealed.

The organisation showed in its latest BCA Pulse report that average used car values diminished by £375 (6.2 per cent) in April 2012 to £5,599.

This was the third consecutive month of decline for the sector, with values having dipped from £6,244 in February.

BCA's communications director Tony Gannon commented: "There were signs in March that values would be coming under pressure, with the short-term seasonal uplift in de-fleets and part-exchange cars increasing supply."

He added that the sector is now in that time of year where demand can become increasingly fragile and in the wider context of the market, good-quality former fleet vehicles remain in short supply.

Earlier this week, the organisation also showed used van values in the UK rose last month, despite an increase in average age and mileage for these vehicles.

According to the BCA's findings, the average used van price rose by £44 to £4,271 in April.
