Average used car values across the UK rose significantly during the course of the last 12 months, figures published by British Car Auctions (BCA) have confirmed.

According to the organisation's data covering 2010 to the end of last year, 2013 witnessed a 13.8 per cent increase in typical sales values for used vehicles in comparison to the previous year, which itself was up considerably on values in 2011.

Overall, 2013 saw average prices grow to £7,056 for used car buyers up and down the country, building on the considerable momentum in the market that has been established over the last four years.

Simon Henstock, BCA UK operations director, commented: "Demand rarely faltered throughout the year, even into the traditionally quieter summer months and the second half of 2013 was particularly strong."

He added improving economic conditions in the UK have put greater confidence into the marketplace.
